ডোপিংয়ের দায়ে সব ধরনের ক্রিকেট থেকে নিষিদ্ধ হয়েছিলেন নিরোশান ডিকভেলা। সেই সিদ্ধান্তের বিরুদ্ধে আপিল করে আবারও ক্রিকেট খেলার অনুমতি পেয়েছেন এই লঙ্কান ক্রিকেটার। সব ধরনের ক্রিকেটেই এখন খেলতে পারবেন এই উইকেটকিপার ব্যাটার।
সর্বশেষ লঙ্কা প্রিমিয়ার লিগ (এলপিএল) চলাকালে ক্রিকেটারদের ডোপ পরীক্ষা করানো হয়। সেই পরীক্ষায় উত্তীর্ণ হতে পারেননি ডিকভেলা। যে কারণে গত অগাস্টে তাকে অনির্দিষ্টকালের জন্য নিষিদ্ধ করে শ্রীলঙ্কা অ্যান্টি-ডোপিং এজেন্সি।
ওই নিষেধাজ্ঞার বিরুদ্ধে আপিল করেছিলেন ডিকভেলা। তার দাবি ছিল, টুর্নামেন্ট চলাকালে কোনো নিষিদ্ধ পদার্থ তিনি গ্রহণ করেননি এবং চিহ্নিত পদার্থটি খেলার পারফরম্যান্স বাড়ানোর সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত নয়। তার করা আপিল সফল হয়েছে। ফলে তার নিষেধাজ্ঞা প্রত্যাহার করে তাকে সব ধরনের ক্রিকেটে খেলার অনুমতি দেওয়া হয়েছে।
ক্যারিয়ারে বিতর্কিত কাণ্ড করে খবরের শিরোনামে আগেও এসেছেন ডিকভেলা। ২০২১ সালে করোনাকালীন সময়ে বায়ো-বাবল প্রটোকল ভঙ্গের দায়ে নিষিদ্ধ হওয়া শ্রীলঙ্কার তিন ক্রিকেটারের একজন ছিলেন তিনি।
তিন সংস্করণেই শ্রীলঙ্কার হয়ে খেলেছেন ডিকওয়েলা। ৫৪ টেস্টে ২ হাজার ৭৫৭ রান, ৫৫ ওয়ানডেতে ১ হাজার ৬০৪ রান ও ২৮ টি-টোয়েন্টিতে ৪৮০ রান করেছেন তিনি। আন্তর্জাতিক আঙিনায় তার দুটি সেঞ্চুরি আছে ওয়ানডেতে।
