যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ‘ন্যাশনাল প্রেয়ার ব্রেকফাস্ট’ অনুষ্ঠানের বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যান তারেক রহমানের পক্ষ থেকে তার একমাত্র কন্যা ব্যারিস্টার জাইমা রহমান যোগ দেবেন বলে জানিয়েছেন আমীর খসরু মাহমুদ চৌধুরী। রোববার (২ ফেব্রুয়ারি) ‘ন্যাশনাল প্রেয়ার ব্রেকফাস্ট’ অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দিতে আমেরিকার উদ্দেশে রওয়ার আগে ঢাকা হযরত শাহজালার আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরে এ কথা জানান বিএনপির স্থায়ী কমিটির এই সদস্য।
আমীর খসরু বলেন, লন্ডন থেকে জাইমা রহমান যোগ দেবেন। তারেক রহমান অংশ নেবেন না। তার প্রতিনিধিত্ব করবেন জাইমা রহমান। এসময় বিএনপি মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর বলেন, এখানে কোনও আলোচনার বিষয় নেই। আমরা ‘ন্যাশনাল প্রেয়ার ব্রেকফাস্ট’ অনুষ্ঠানে আমন্ত্রণ পেয়ে যাচ্ছি। সাইডলাইনে কিছু আলোচনা হবে।
ওয়াশিংটনে অনুষ্ঠ্যেয় ন্যাশনাল প্রেয়ার ব্রেকফাস্টে যোগ দিতে গত ১০ জানুয়ারি বিএনপির একটি প্রতিনিধি দলকে অংশগ্রহণের জন্য আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়। আমন্ত্রিতরা হলেন– ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যান তারেক রহমান, মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর, আমীর খসরু মাহমুদ চৌধুরী।
