ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) কমিশনার হিসেবে নতুন কেউ যোগদান না করা পর্যন্ত দায়িত্ব পালন করবেন অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ কমিশনার (সুপারনিউমারারি অতিরিক্ত আইজি) মো. সরওয়ার।
বৃহস্পতিবার (২৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি) অ্যাডিশনাল ডিআইজি (পার্সোনেল ম্যানেজমেন্ট-১) শামিমা ইয়াছমিন খন্দকার স্বাক্ষরিত এক প্রজ্ঞাপনে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়েছে।
এর আগে ‘ব্যক্তিগত ও পারিবারিক’ কারণ দেখিয়ে পদত্যাগপত্র জমা দেন ঢাকা মহানগর পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) কমিশনার শেখ মো. সাজ্জাত আলী। যদিও তার চুক্তির মেয়াদ আগামী নভেম্বর পর্যন্ত ছিল।
বিসিএস পুলিশ ক্যাডারের ১৯৮৪ ব্যাচের কর্মকর্তা শেখ মো. সাজ্জাত আলী বিগত আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের সময় পুলিশ সদর দপ্তরের অতিরিক্ত আইজিপি থাকা অবস্থায় ২০১৬ সালের নভেম্বরে চাকরিচ্যুত হন।
আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের পতনের পর অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার ভূতাপেক্ষভাবে তাকে চাকরিতে পুনর্বহাল করে। পরে ২০২৪ সালের ২০ নভেম্বর ডিএমপির ৩৮তম পুলিশ কমিশনার হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পান সাজ্জাত আলী।
