ত্রয়োদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচন সফলভাবে সম্পন্ন করায় প্রধান নির্বাচন কমিশনার (সিইসি) এ এম এম নাসির উদ্দিনকে অভিনন্দন জানিয়েছে ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়ন (ইইউ)।

সোমবার (২৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি) সকালে রাজধানীর আগারগাঁওয়ে অবস্থিত নির্বাচন ভবনে সিইসির সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করে এ অভিনন্দন জানান ইইউ রাষ্ট্রদূত মাইকেল মিলার। এসময় নির্বাচন কমিশনের সিনিয়র সচিব আখতার আহমেদ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

বৈঠকে রাষ্ট্রদূত মাইকেল মিলার ত্রয়োদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে ইইউর পক্ষ থেকে দেওয়া সহায়তার বিপরীতে সিইসির কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশকে সাধুবাদ জানান। তিনি উল্লেখ করেন, একটি অংশগ্রহণমূলক ও সুষ্ঠু নির্বাচনের মাধ্যমে গণতান্ত্রিক ধারা অব্যাহত রাখা প্রশংসনীয়।

জাতীয় নির্বাচন শেষ হলেও কমিশনের কাজের পরিধি কমছে না উল্লেখ করে রাষ্ট্রদূত বলেন, সামনে উপনির্বাচনসহ বিশাল এক কর্মযজ্ঞ রয়েছে। যার মধ্যে ১২টি সিটি কর্পোরেশন নির্বাচন, ৪৯৫টি উপজেলা পরিষদ নির্বাচন, ৪৫৮২টি ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ নির্বাচন রয়েছে।

মাইকেল মিলার আশ্বস্ত করেন, এই বিশাল স্থানীয় সরকার নির্বাচনগুলো সুষ্ঠুভাবে সম্পন্ন করতে ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়নের পক্ষ থেকে কারিগরি ও অন্যান্য সব ধরনের সহযোগিতা অব্যাহত থাকবে।

উল্লেখ্য, গত ১২ ফেব্রুয়ারি দেশজুড়ে ত্রয়োদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। নাসির কমিশন দায়িত্ব নেওয়ার পর এটিই ছিল তাদের সবচেয়ে বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ, যা সফলভাবে সম্পন্ন হওয়ায় ইইউ অভিনন্দন জানাল।
